Janet Lowe, an English Language Learner teacher at Linden Elementary, was awarded a Creative Teaching Grant to purchase chapter books for her 4th grade ELL students. Last year, Janet’s students asked if they could read chapter books during reading and she realized she did not have enough of any chapter book to do that. Janet scrounged around and collected books last year in order to be able to read chapter books with them.
Janet decided that she would apply for the Foundation Grant in order to have sets on hand to read with her fourth graders during the year. With the money, Janet was able to purchase eleven sets (10 in each set) of books to read with her students. They have enjoyed reading the books as well as many activities done to accompany them. Janet really appreciated receiving the grant money from the Foundation!
